Competed Nationally and internationally with over 25 years experience. 3x Australian Champion Representing Australia numerous times for  International and World Titles. Accredited Boxing Australia Trainer.

  • PETE MATTHEWS

    HEAD BOXING COACH.
I started boxing at the age of 14 for self defence and before I knew it, I was having my first bout. After 56 fights, 38 wins and 18 by knockout I retired. In 2002, I returned to give back what I got out of the sport, I love seeing others progress and improve. MVC is a great gym and the trainers are all there for the right reasons.

  • MELINDA CANAVAN

    HEAD BOXING TRAINER - WOMEN.
I have been boxing at MVC for 6 years.  As soon as I started I was addicted, not only to the fitness aspect but also the mental stimulation boxing provides.  MVC was built in honour of my father Michael Victor Canavan and it is a privilege to be part of an association stemmed from his discipline, passion and amazing contribution to the sport. My most memorable moment to date is when one of the girls from my women's class approached me at the end and thanked me for helping her to become more confident and empowered, this is why I love it and you will too.

  • REBECCA O'BRIEN

    BOXING TRAINER.
While looking into a sport for my son, I discovered MVC Boxing and after watching the kids boxing circuits, I decided to join the adult circuits . As a mum of 3 kids keeping fit and healthy is paramount. I have been training at MVC Boxing for almost 3 years and a trainer for 18months and I’m in the best shape of my life. Going through my boxing accreditation gave me an insight and appreciation for the discipline, skill and fitness involved in boxing. There is an amazing feeling of empowerment and achievement that comes from boxing and as a trainer there is nothing better than seeing people enjoy the circuits, grow in confidence and push themselves.

  • COLIN BOYCE

    BOXING TRAINER.
I joined MVC two weeks after the doors opened in June 2007. I joined to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. In 2015, I decided to train for the Queensland Masters , during my preparation I lost over 30kgs and was in the best shape of my life which I still maintain today. After the Masters I was invited to become a trainer under the guidance of Steven Marks and Peter Matthews. My boxing circuits are diverse and adapted to the individuals in each of my classes.

  • ANDREW MARRS

    BOXING TRAINER.
I developed my interest in strength and endurance training under the guidance of Olympic Taekwon-Do Coach Rod Black, he introduced me to the principle of dynamic training for strength. An opportunity arose in 2011 to join MVC Boxing. As a resident of the Mitcham Ringwood area for over forty years, I saw the value of MVC as a unique member-based, non for profit, community based boxing gym. As my knowledge and skills in circuits developed, I was invited to be an MVC trainer under the mentorship of Steven Marks and Peter Matthews. My Boxing circuit classes are safe, challenging and diverse, I adapt my circuits to the individual needs of the participants. I take great pride and enjoyment as an MVC trainer and consider the weekly circuits as a major part of my own fitness and training regime.

I have been a member of MVC Boxing for 3 years and a trainer for 18 months.
I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and the community feel. I have two school age children, a wonderful husband and live within the area. I have made some Wonderful friends along the journey at MVC and love the people within. The training is fun and it is a great start to my day.

  • ANTHONY STASIAK

    BOXING TRAINER.
I joined MVC more than 5 years ago on the recommendation of a fellow trainer Andrew Marrs and to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am a Ringwood East local and veteran of the 5:45am MVC Boxing circuit classes, what started as an ambition to keep fit, evolved into a passion to support others and enjoy the values of MVC Boxing and achieve their personal fitness goals. I’m know for my enthusiasm in the morning classes as I encourage energetic training to ensure you get the best start to any day!

  • KATHYRN YEATES

    BOXING TRAINER.
The first time I trained was with my Dad (a foundation member who since passed away) and Peter Matthews on a Sunday morning. Afterwards, I was so exhausted although enjoyed every minute - I was hooked. I began to train 2-3 times a week, and was making progress in my fitness and weight loss goals. I fell pregnant in 2014 and up until the 36 weeks continued my training. I recovered quickly (which I credit to my fitness). I have completed the Level 1 Boxing Coaches Accreditation course and I just generally love the sport of boxing and all the positive energy you gain from a great workout. My long term goal is to one day participate in the Master's Games.
